Bonham, Texas — The Bonham Public Library is starting two new coding programs in January 2022. We will be hosting a “Kids Coding Club” starting on Saturday, January 8, 2022, and an Adult “Coding in the Afternoon” starting on Thursday, January 12, 2022. The Kid’s Coding Club will meet every other Saturday starting on January 8, and Coding in the Afternoon will meet monthly, on the second Thursday of the month.

The Kids Coding Club is open to children ages 7 to 13. Kids can learn how to program a robot or learn how to create games or apps with Scratch or Code.org. The library has two 3D printers and kids can learn to create 3D objects in programs like Tinkercad or Blender Graphics. Besides programming, this is an opportunity to learn fundamental computer skills. The code club meets from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon.

Coding in the Afternoon offers the same opportunities as the Kids Coding Club plus building programmable robots with Lego EVE. This program is open to all experience levels. If you have always wanted to learn how to code or build robots, you can try out exactly what the kids are doing. Our 3D printers will also be available and participants will learn how to create their own 3D designs. Coding in the Afternoon meets from 4:30 to 5:30. Space is limited, so please call ahead to register.

The Bonham Library also has a coding club just for girls. Girls Who Code is a program designed to empower girls through learning how to code. Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. This program is for girls in the 3rd through 6th grade. Girls Who Code meets at the library on the first and third Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m. For more information about Girls Who Code visit: https://girlswhocode.com/

If you have any questions about our new programs, please call the library at (903) 583-3128 or email us at [email protected].  Please write coding club questions in the subject heading of your email.
